Do I have an AW4?

So my transmission fluid is low. I've got a 1998 jeep xj with 171k well taken care of. How do I tell if I have the aw4 transmission so I can put the right fluid in? I have the 6 cylinder 4wd.

Yes, its an AW4 unless someone has swapped it out for something crazy.

Fill it up with dexIII/merc after you drain it. Might even be worth dropping the pan and putting in a new filter/strainer.

Its not really worth it. A few good drain and refills should do fine. I gave up on trying to convince myself that these need to be change after cutting open a few. look at post #19
