Default Do the AW4 downshift points bother anyone else?

I'm loving my new 01 XJ, but its really bothering me that I can't give any decent throttle in 3rd or 4th without the trans downshifting and throwing it up to 4500 or more RPM's. I would love to be able to accelerate through the gears shifting around 3500 RPMs. I'm used to the AX-15 from my old 93 XJ, and I'm not liking the AW4 for this reason. Anyone else share in my frustration or discover any solutions?

the same thing was happen to me when i got my 01, the more i drove it the more i got used to it. i saw that you have to ease in to the throttle. if you " Punch it " your rpms will peg. or from a " roll " of say 25 mph ill give it %50 throttle then the trans upshift then %100 throttle and most of the time it will hang arown 3000 rpm

i think in 3rd gear if you do it right you can hit 85+ mph

You might be needing an adjustment to the trans kickdown cable.. this is common when it is needed.

Yea I was just reading about that. I think I'm gonna go out and give it shot tonight. Looks simple enough.

Haha thats crazy. From what I've heard this is a great trans, I'm just not big on the shift points, especially when it downshifts like that. It should be possible to drive fast and not hit 4000 rpms. We'll find out if the kickdown cable adjustment helps any.

I love me some AW4's. Love the sound they make too, it's very distinct. Actually turned down a cherry XJ, because slowing down, the trans just didn't sound right.
