if i get bored of the color i can just rip it off
and dont really plan on doing trail stuff just mudding

and its more of a project than spray painting the whole thing which i like

i have a few questions maybe some can answer.
what exactly is the whole process of painting? im planning on just rattle canning it and i sort of understand what to do. i know to scuff it up first do i need to prime it? and if so will black primer be bad for a red final color? thx for any help

 

Lighter final color
Lighter primer
I personally don't prime
Just two coats of whatever color or more if dark base coat.

And wet sanding is best with wets sanding automotive sand paper
Makes it smooth like silk
Then tape and mask anything ya don't want painted
Slow side to side strokes frome left to right and top to bottom
Or vice versa based on situation
Practice on some sheetmetal
If possible or in a not so highly visible spot

 

scuff scuff and more scuff for rattle cans
its all in the prep work and and spray technique
you might get away without primer. especially if your prep work is good and its a similar color

if you've got bad oxidation or chipping, you will need to sand it all off and feather the chips. fix dents with bondo etc.
the more prep work you do the better the outcome

 

I've never wet sanded spray can paint jobs. didnt think spray paint was made for wet sanding
