Last road I made in mine, I went just under 400 miles on half a tank, not bad in my book! but considering what other vehicles I have it wouldn't take much to impress me on mileage.

i remember seeing one at the gas station one day, this guy in a dually was pissed cause he thought that the cherokee was just sitting in front of the diesel pump, when the guy found out that it was a diesel xj his jaw dropped haha, i talked to the guy and he says he gets around 25-30 mpg in the city, he was an older guy too so im sure he's easy on it anyways lol

Everytime I stop in for fuel in my CRD, the attendant always asks is this a diesel? no sh-t sherlock what was your first clue? the green cap that says DIESEL ONLY???? LOL
I had both the Liberty and Cherokee weighed at a weigh in station awhile back and the Liberty out weighed the Cherokee by I think it was almost 700lbs.

They are pretty fun to drive, very peppy and sporty feeling, seats are hard and not very comfortable for long trips, gas mileage is great, they have great towing capacity, they don't do near as well in the snow as a Cherokee, I was a little disappointed, Overall I really do like mine, but I love my Cherokee and parts for the Cherokee are way cheaper-easier to find and the cost to buy was unbelieveable....the CRD's are pretty spendy and hard to find.

Ive got a 1998 TD cherokee. But I live in Britain and theyre not as rare over here. It has the 2.5L VM Motori engine, giving 140 bhp. I still have my 4.0L 93, cause I love the big engine and auto transmission.. but the petrol running costs were killing me. The diesel is my daily driver..with the manual transmission it gets between 30 and 40 mpgs if your easy on the throttle. It doesnt have the grunt of the big 4.0, but it does a decent job.
If anyones interested, I could post a vid on youtube, let you see and hear the diesel XJ... it isnt the quietest of engines
