Debating the route of my xj
So I'm debating what i would like to do with my xj. I have a 3' on 31's. Pretty pleased with the clearance. I was thinkin of bumpin up to either 4 or 4.5 but don't wanna spend all the extra money with sye and driveshaft and possible regearing. Its my DD thinkin of putting a lock right in the back and just leaving it at that. what you guys think?

to go up to 4 or 4.5 all youll have to do is lower you t case some and maybe a longer brake line... my jeep is 4.5'' on 31s and im pretty sure i dont have a sye ill have to look again i havent looked at it since i bought it in august... and you cant go wrong locking the back or front axle

If you're happy with the clearance, IMO leave it as is. Getting into the 4"+ lifts and you're going to need extended brake lines, SYE, etc. And like Lifted98 said, you can't go wrong with lockers!

3-3.5 and lockers is what I'm looking at as ideal for my 97 (DD/light wheeling) some day. I'm more of a LCOG person.
Sounds like you have a solid plan.

My brother had a sweet XJ at 3.5", then he kept jimmying it up higher by stacking coil spring isolators and longer shackles. Now it looks great sitting at 4.5" but it sucks to drive it with his vibrations. The thing eats driveshaft u-joints too. He tried to put shims under his axle and drop his t-case, no good. If you aren't ready for a SYE, stay put and do the locker, which will help you more anyway.
