Default Dealing with state?

Hey about to start a build but not sure of how I should store it. I don't plan on getting plates or insurance on it, just want it as a toy. How do you guys store or park your rigs w/o any thing on them? Its illegal to have any vehicle in ny without plates or insurance on them. What should I do?

Not breaking the law would be a good start. Also not asking on a public forum HOW to break the law would also be a good place to start, too.

You dont really need insurance if it's going to be a toy, but I'd suggest keeping liability insurance on it in case you happen to run into someone else on the trail (say a H2 or H3) and they want you to replace the chromoly bumperettes you broke off..... My point is, keep it cost effective and have the cheapest available insurace required for your state, and plates are mandatory even for offroad-non street legal toys (at least in WA it is).

I'm sorry if my first post came across as rude, but laws are there for a reason, and they need to be obeyed. You give the community as a whole a bad name when you disobey them and get caught, and it's honestly in your best interest to just go along with them to avoid trouble down the line.

i spoke with my insurance company on getting insurance for a toy, kind of like what you are talking about. they told me the best thing to do is get special insurance that you just call and have turned on when you are using it and hten turn it off when you are not using it. or get liability. they do make insurance like you want, just have to ask.

i have state farm, by the way. they answer any questions i have and have been super.

In Illinois plates are required IF a vehicle touches a public roadway.. So my wheeling Jeep which rides on a trailer to and from private property wheeling spots doesn't need them. But our idiotic village requires valid plates if a vehicle is parked outside in plain sight.

I also have State Farm.. I have a personal liability policy. It technically covers any passenger vehicle I(or my wife) are driving. It was only a few dollars more than our insurance for 5 vehicles and a trailer would have been.

here in ca you don't need plates or insurance as long as the vehicle is never used on public property, trails, roads, etc. NY may be the same or different. i would call or go to your local DMV and ask them. like was said above, you may need a special registration such as a green sticker, like here in ca, to be able to use your toy on BLM land or other places where atv's or motorcycles are used. that would require you trailer the toy from your house to wherever.

in az i pay $42 for my plates (and they keep going down =]) and i pay $100 for my insurance, its not full coverage but my ppl insurance is extremely high and it covers good amount of vehicle damage. i would just check into how much registration is, and maybe put it under fire/flood insurance (like $5) just so it has insurance =]

What was worthless about this? People answered the question with honest thought. You stated yourself that you know its illegal to have a vehicle in NY without plates or insurance. I think finding the cheapest liability insurance and getting it tagged will be much cheaper that getting caught driving withought tags and insurance on or off the road and find yourself getting a ticket or even worse needing an SR22 when you have a wreck without insurance. Believe me, there are plenty of honest trail riders that will call you out or worse, call the police the first sight of you. It sounded like everyone here was looking out for your best interest.

Those vehicles may be from states with completely different laws than New York. Laws aren't universal across the US, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view).
