Default Is this a dangerous buy?

It looks very clean , regular maint, everything works just needs.a valve cover gasket. Besides price is this a risky purchase?

what all does, "needs dome TLC" entail? What kind of shape is the under-body in - i.e. any rust? Any other maintenance records on it? Price is way too steep for a XJ that needs an unknown amount of work done to it. Excellent condition on kbb is $2800 is this is far from that. Good condition - which this is still questionable due to the lack of information is $2300. Fair (which is what I'm assuming it to be) is $1800.

Yeah I wouldn't take this for anything more than 2k, if that. Seems sketchy to me.

Hole in the gas tank? What was he doing with it before? Never admit that.
Coming from a retired used car salesman, ACV on that thing is about a grand. Retail maybe 2 to 2.5. After detailing and service.

He said the tlc was just a good detailing and cleaning. His daughter drove it while in college and is selling it for her.

Your call, check it out good, but try to deal him around 2K IMO. Not bad looking. Have seen worse. In my own driveway to be exact.

Was the hole in the gas tank caused from rust or damage? If it was a rust hole, you can bet on there being rust in lots of other places too. 3 grand is too high.

I'm trying to imagine why it would need a new harmonic balancer.

I mean maybe the rubber band dry rotted?

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to see it saturday and address the rust issue and find out about the gas tank. I wasn't sure about the harmonic balancer either. Im hoping it checks out alright, its quite a drive to look at this thing.
