so, i got offered a dana 44 from an xj with 336,000 miles. $250. kinda wondering if it's worth it. i already got a spare ford 8.8 and a spare c8.25 sitting in the back yard. would u buy a 44 with that many miles for $250?

i think i would man, you figure you get an 8.8 from a junk yard for like $200 and that is definitely going to need few bucks to get it to work. the 44 will bolt right in and maybe all you need to fix is brakes cuz i'm sure you'll want to rebuild the drums

well, i have the ZJ backing plates ready to go too... but i already have a ford 8.8 with 4.10s sitting in the back yard rusting. it's from an '01 with 130k miles. and i already have a d30 with 4.10s. the d44 has 3.55s, so, i would have to regear it to use it.
here's the confusion...
ECGS ford 8.8 to XJ kit - $235
D44 with 3.55 - $250
master install kit with 4.10 ring and pinion - about $250
and welding up the axles is not an issue.

But I wouldn't worry about it since you already have an 8.8, which is a good bit stronger

damn good deal on those 60's. too bad the one shown is passenger side drop. still a smokin good deal.
maybe he's got some ford 60's.
cheers.
since you already have an 8.8. i would just spend the little bit of cash there to get it in. otherwise, i'd say get the 44.

I got my d44 for free. It cost me about $1000 to rebuild it without labor. Keep your money use what u have an 8.25 isn't that much less of an axle as compared to the 44 and you have extra parts.
Just my $$$$ on it.
