lots of guys choose to beat the D35 till it breaks. plenty of guys on 33's with D35. but they all have swap plans
I'd run 33's on a 29 spline 8.25. people build it to handle 35" tires but I'd rather put money in an 8.8 instead

D35 is a good boat anchor, I broke 2 of them in my wranglers
Snapped a shaft in my 2.5L TJ with open diff on 33's on the street. Upgraded to a 8.8
On my YJ I bent the housing an snapped both shafts at once Locked on 33's with a 4 banger . It was replaced with an XJ D44 with a 35spline arb and 35 spilne dutchman axleshafts
I feel safe running upto a 35 on a 29 spline 8.25 aslong as the shafts are upgraded

I guess if you already have an 8.8 and you've already cut off the old parts, welded on the new, and have it all prepped to go under your Jeep...OK, go for it.
But, if you already have an 8.25, all you need are the upgraded axles (~$225, and your old ones become your spares) and your locker and you are set.
