Default custom intake quetion

Hey guys i found a write up about doing a custom intake for my 94 xj and it said to use 3 inch exhaust pipe but i went to the store and couldnt find any 3inch except for a small addapter and figured not to waste my money cuz it didnt seem right. My question is should i get 3 inch exhaust pipe or just get a cheap intake off ebay like this one?

Moved to chat.

I wouldn't buy either. At most I'd do a custom snorkel, but if you don't need water clearance, just stick with a K&N direct replacement and forget the cold air intake.

Look at the one you linked to. Look where its pulling its air from. Its getting all that air from under the hood, which is some hot air. Do you really think its worth any money?

Even if i made a custom heat sheild it wouldnt be worth it? Would making the snorkel be easy and cheap?

Some here have done some good research on our 4.0 motor. The air filter really isn't the bottle neck, it flows more than enough air to quench the thirst of the motor.

Depending on how crazy you get on the snorkel, you can have them for less than $50. For $100 you can have something fairly nice depending on your personal skill.
