I bought a cheap $25 OBD2 code reader off of ebay about 4 years ago. It still works great. just reads codes and resets cel. Very helpfull in troublshooting. It doesnt take anything fancy, just depends on what you want it to do.

do it right, get an AutoEnginuity code scanner. It goes way past the things the OBD2 scanner can do. The 95 cherokee won't be able to work, but the 96 and later Cherokees are stubborn on when it throws a code and an auto parts store can scan that check engine for you.

That scanner is amazing and will go through everything on your vehicle every sensor for you to check.
