Default Coasting in neutral with an automatic

Hey, so I have a quick question. The other day I was looking into driving habits that can help you get better gas mileage and one of the methods was to coast in neutral when going down a hill or rolling to a stop. Now with a stick thats all fine and dandy, but my question is, is that ok to do with an automatic transmition? I was talking to my dad the other day and we dont know if the oil pump in the auto tranny would be running if the motor was disengaged from the tranny. Can anyone shine a little light on the subject?

The pump still turns even in neutral. But I wouldn't recommend on the constantly shifting manually, it will eventually wear the solenoids due to bypassing them with direct line pressure.

the only time the pump isn't turning, is when the engine is shut off.
