Default chop top will fold in half without support

I have a 92 2 door..I heard that if you just simply cut the top off without adding anykind of support it will "fold in half" I did a lot of google searching and couldn't find one chopped without support..anyone know any truth behind this or what ima half to do

Yeah you'll lose a bunch of structural integrity cutting the top out. Wheeling is already tough enough on an XJs unibody. So cut it. Cage it. Wheel it.

Just 'cuz it's pretty doesn't mean you can't wheel it. heck, if he can make it look that good I'm sure he can fix whatever damage he does to the body. Besides, a few knicks, bumps, and scrapes give character. But yes, you need to give it some support (a cage is perfect, just do it right) otherwise you're gonna destroy it the first time you take it offroad.

hmm i ws planning on chopping mine, drving it like that for a while then caging it. i figured with the back hatch area moved closer ( going from a suv to pickup design) the roff would be more supportive...

like i do want to cage it, but just planned on cutting it first.. what about just a roll bar like in the bed that goes around the back of the roof area. would that be enough support? ill go with the roll cage but just wondering about the bar, im no engineer

yea i have a two door and want to chop it and then planned on using he stock tailgate/back window and cutting that in half for just the back window, then using sheet metal or something to patch it up, then maybe an mj tailgate or until i get one just use a net that goes from side to side, think its called like a gatornet..

Not a bad idea...I was planning on cutting the back right behind the door then using the part behind the back window up front so its like a " extended cab" then pretty much fab up the rest of the back with sheet metal and tubes

are you saying chop the top off like make it completely open? like no roof? or chop as mkaing it a truck.. i want to make mine a truck, not have an open top say as a wrangler, just windshield, that would definitly need a cage for support..sorry guess i misunderstood your post
