heard on the radio that the Cherokee tribe wants Jeep to quit using the Cherokee name. any truth to this? they're both American originals. looks to me like they would identify with Jeep and use that to their advantage as advertisement.

advertisement for what? Complete inhalation? As much as my love for my Cherokee, it’s a weird place. If the chief asks that the name not be used in this way, it’s really the least.
I heard the nation of France is considering taking me to court to force me to change my first name. It's too similar to one of their famous royals and should not be allowed for commoners.
PETA once sued a photographer for not paying royalties to a monkey he photographed.

Half of my family has no problem with the Cherokee using the same name. Some of them think it's cool.
It would probably be a different story if the Cherokee was a bag of lame-o weak sauce. But it's not.
i live in an area with many reserves within just a few miles of each other.
one town, just outside of a reserve, had to change a few street names from native words just to please the aboriginals.
when do we just erase all history, and stop the funding? then no one will know they even exist. you can't change history.
but damn if all the snowflakes get their way... no more christmas because it offends muslims, no more easter, no more named holidays. it wouldn't surprise me either way.
I am inclined to go along with it simply because of all of the death and destruction we heaped on their race over the years. It would be the least we can do. They don't want us to remove the name from our cars, just want Jeep to stop using it in future. As I understand it Jeep once paid them for the rights to use it and they don't any more. I plan to see what I can come up with by scrambling the letters and changing it on ours. We may also change the name to Overland Vegetable Stagecoach.

Oh, so maybe we should follow the money?? Hmmmm.
If it's not the money, this is probably the result of a few activists, and does not reflect the view of the majority. That's been found to be the case with every such complaint that has come out of that crowd.

Man, I get what you're saying, but I think this is one circumstance that we should consider respecting. That being said, I think my 01 would look pretty sick with an XJ badge on the side.

Respect is a two way street. Using the word Cherokee for a vehicle in no way degrades, impunes or otherwise devastates any one. All this is about is the bs of the cancel culture and the "all about me" group. We learned from the past, but we were not part of it.
Jeep isnt using the Cherokee name to promote violence or inequality or whatever they call crap these days. Jeep isnt using thier image or way of life in advertisements, be it a spot on tv or a billboard next to the highway. Jeep did use Cherokee Chief emblems years ago with a chief on it. Aside from that, what is there? The name Cherokee? Big deal. If Jeep is supposed to stop using the name Cherokee, are we to stop calling this website Cherokeeforums.com, because it has nothing to do with Native Americans or thier culture? Think about that. If the Cherokee people dont like the name Cherokee being used on a vehicle, why would they stop at a website?
The world today is full of too many stuck ups with nothing better to do than nit pick trivial matters in an attempt to force others to kneel before them as a show of power.
Theres an expression some use and goes like this. "Stop the world, i want to get off."
yea...I feel so much safer and secure now that we have removed the female Indian model from Land O Lakes products........though I will not buy their products anymore as they are part of the cancel culture.
I mean if they do this then I'm going to have a full length Cherokee decal down both sides of my jeep. My wife is Cherokee Indian and has absolutely no issues with it. People just need something to ***** about is all, and the Native American people have finally joined in all the fun

Why?
In the first place, who is actually complaining? A few liberal activists, as these kind of complaints have always turned out to be? I can't think of a case yet where it's turned out to be the rank and file, unless you count the time they were outraged at Elizabeth Warren's false claim to be native American.
In the second place, is there any validity to their complaint? Is anyone being degraded or insulted? NO. Actually, it's a compliment.
