Changing XJ tire
I know I am going to get it for this, but I honestly have never changed a tire on my 99 XJ. When I bought it last year, it did not come with the OEM jack/equipment so I bought a little bottle jack. I think this is the exact one:

Anyway, I was reading the car manual on how to change a tire, and became confused on where exactly to mount the bottle jack. Will this jack work for changing tires, and if so could anyone walk me through it? Do I have to use jack stands? I'm used to using a little scissor lift with no stands on my old Honda Civic that took 30 seconds.
Thanks, and sorry for the amateur question haha.

can you slide the jack under the axle? if so, it will work. As for stands, for changing a tire on the side of the road, I wouldn't say it is a necessity, just be careful and don't move the Jeep around much

That little round plate maybe 1" diameter on the jack resting on the axle? Doesn't seem very secure or safe to me.

It isn't ideal but will do in a pinch when you have to change a tire on the side of the road (scissors jacks aren't much better). Do not put any body part under the tire or brake rotor/drum when using such a jack to change a tire, and never climb under any vehicle that is supported only with a hydraulic jack.
For anything beyond that I'd use a trolley/floor jack and Jack-stands if you are going to be under the vehicle

The designated points are the axle tube/dif housing (as noted the stock jack has a pad to fit these), and the "frame" rails in front of rear wheel well and behind the front wheel well (note: most bottle jacks aren't capable of reaching the frame rails and lifting the vehicle enough to get a tire off).
