I would say not to go with a magnet mount if ur taking it off road! Any truck stop should sell bolt on antenna's.
I like the look of the right rear QP bolt on set up! Idk just a thought!

I use a 4' firestick on the back corner of my jeep. it sticks about 2' over the roof, and im constantly having issues with it getting caught on branches at my local wheelin spot. i would say try to keep it around 3' long if you wheel in tight woods alot. i had to buy another antenna.

On an XJ, with a mag mount the center of the roof will get you about a 1:1 SWR. The roof has the best ground plain on the whole vehicle. This will also get you the longest range from your radio depending on how good your antenna is.
I had an antenna mounted where Crawlncoupe has his and the range was about 15 feet "on my jeep", I like the looks of it mounted there but it didn't work for me. Makes me wounder what his SWR is.

mine goes about 6-7 miles before it starts breaking up. i was told the swr all depends on how your ground is and how long your cable is.

ya i have a 12' cable run to that location right now. some nerdy guy at a cb shop measured my swr and told me it was a little high, he said if i went to a 18' cable it'd make the swr alot lower.
