Default CB problem

Dont really know a lot about cb's but i hooked up a cb in the jeep tonight and no matter where I grounded, powered it or ran the coax, as soon as I turn the ignition on all you can hear is motor, turn signals etc. open to any suggestions. Thanks.

very common problem with our XJ's. if your radio has an "ANL" switch, turn it on. if not, if you installed your coax with some extra length, make 3 6in loops in the coax near the radio and use some bread ties or zip ties to tie it. it should cut down on some of it unless its pretty bad. then you have two options, a filter or getting a radio that is equipped with ANL.

dont know what to say.. you can try a cheap DC noise suppressor
http://radioproshop.com/filters/ns10.htm
but that might not solve your problem.
one thing i know that helped with mine was running ground straps from the frame rail to the motor and the negative terminal to the frame rail, it cut down on ault noise big time and helped with engine idle.

How far do you have to turn your squelch up to make it stop? Are you near high power lines? Are you using a mag mount or permanent mount antenna? Did you run power and ground directly from the battery?

If there are power lines close by the can cause extra/unwanted noise. If you are using a permanent mount antenna make sure the rubber washer is on the antenna side of the mount, not the coax side of the mount.

I have ran from the battery and have ran from other sources.. All the same..I got another antenna so guess I will try it if I can find one of those taillight mounts.. Not around any major power lines.

Default CB noise

Resistor type plugs in the motor or go to like a "Radio Shack" and see if they have any clip on ferrite beads. These clamp to the coax next to the radio and will stop some of it. Also try moving the antenna to a different spot if you can as far from the motor as possible.

RF isolators also help in newer vehicles. Wires have what's called a "skin" effect, the isolator helps to alleviate some of this.
