cash for clunkers question

I bet that about half of the 1st gen XJ population was killed off in cash for clunkers.


But anyways, honestly cash for clunkers is no longer a valid issue.
Most of the vehicles that went through the program were unsafe and had no place on a public roadway.

My question to you is, why are you crying over something that not only happened 4 years ago, but also raised the value of our current vehicles?

there was nothing good that became of this program. your wrong about most the vehicles being unsafe and not road worthy. these where mostly peoples everyday drivers that got traded in. and no longer a valid issue? this is why america is so far in debt, from running pointless programs like this to try to help out the big 3 by putting the general population further into debt. this did nothing but hurt our economy for years. and lastly noone was crying, i was rather having a discussion if people thought this drove up the prices on older jeeps.

I know we are supposed to stay away from political topics here but based on your comments am I supposed to assume that 4 years after obama has left office all the things he did wrong wont be effecting us any longer?!

"sharing the wealth" and Obama care will only screw us for one or two years I guess.

I think alot of people over price their vehicles cause they are hurting for money, I laugh in peoples face that want 4500 for a 99 XJ with 200K on it, it had problems. 2 years later I still see it for sale, at 3500 at a different lot. I offered 2. With gas prices going up, jeeps and truck prices should be going down.

Hmmm, thats very sad! Did they atleast strip the cars or let the cars parts be resold as useable for other cars?

they locked up all the motors on purpose so people couldn't reuse them and let the rest be sold at the junkyard.

They were supposed to all be crushed but some will and did slip through the cracks. But they were all supposed to be destroyed. And I agree, what a stupid program. Drove by Cass Burch Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Quitman Ga and there was a '03 Durango SLT *** down in a big dumpster. Absolutely disgusting. Make sure to vote so we dont have another 4 years of programs like that......

I dont mind the program, the junk yards around me needed new vehicles in them anyways. I had so many XJ to choose from i didnt know what to do!

They ruined the engine and transmission, JYs had 60 days to sell all the other parts, then they had to be crushed

So you're telling me that people traded in perfect 100% safe vehicles? You're the one who is wrong. I work for a dealership, I'm pretty sure I know what I am talking about.

Also, how did this put the general population into debt? Sure the US government has been in debt for years upon years, but it has little to no effect on the citizens.

The prices on used Jeeps have always been higher than most vehicles unless you're truly buying a POS, then it doesn't matter.

Jeeps tend to hold their value more than any other small to midsize SUV.

I call BS....Unless you've got more proof than "I work at a dealership"

The main requirement for a vehicle to qualify was poor gas mileage. The vehicle also had to have been registered and in use for at least the previous year. People who took advantage of this program had to buy a new vehicle to qualify. It would seem to reason if one could afford a new vehicle they wouldn't be driving around in an unsafe registered one.

Tons of reliable vehicles were sacrificed to that failure of a program. Taking thousands of vehicles and destroying them. Taking parts out of the salvage industry's and getting rid of affordable vehicles that could have really helped someone who needed a cheap vehicle for work. You know, someone who couldn't afford the monthly payment and high insurance cost of owning a new vehicle.

But no, its a much better idea to take money out of many peoples hands ( repair industry, salvage, used car dealer's , engine / transmition rebuilders)

You don't realize the negative effect this had on the industry because you clearly don't pay attention
