Hey guys I'm going to remove my carpet soon and add some rustoleum tan Bedliner in my interior after I fix up the rust that I'm sure is down there. But to pull out the carpet, i have to remove everything right? Also my exhaust is obnoxious and growls and I was wondering if ill be able to hear that more or even less? I know on wranglers there are floor p,Gus if you ever needed to wash interior, do they have them on the xj's? Is it tough to pull the carpet out?

I've cut the carpet out of a couple xj's. much faster. but you'll still need to take out the seats (I think theres a grand total of 11 bolts holding in all 3 of your seats lol)
then remove some plastic panels with a screwdriver. maybe a seatbelt or two. and the center console
should take like an hour. it'll be loud and if your transmission/exhause heats up you'll be able to feel that too becuase you're removing all the insulation

The rubbery backed one? My 98 & 99 were held in with a press style washer if I remember right. I originally just used a knife to cut a small slit in it and ripped it out (tears real easy).

obnoxious is kinda up to you. older xj's aren't that quiet to begin with. road noise doesnt really bother me though since I don't have doors or a stereo. the most obnoxious part was how hot the transmission and exhaust got while crawling. my feet were on fire (that poor trans was overworked though). I've never looked at an electric seat but I'm sure you can figure it out when you look at it
if it's a daily driver I'd leave the carpet it. I'm removing mine because I'm sick of cleaning out mud and smelling damp carpet. quick google search shows this for sound deadener http://www.b-quiet.com/?googleads

I took everything but the drivers seat out of mine when I bedlined my floor. It was summer and man that got hot. I put dynamat over the liner and then vinyl flooring over that. It's quiet, cool and works great. It was worth the extra work.

I ran my 98 with no carpet/insulation for 2 years as my daily driver. Never really noticed the extra noise (over all the other sounds an XJ makes), but definitely noticed the extra heat off the trans tunnel. On a day of wheeling it would get quite warm, but not enough to bother me, and kinda liked it in the cold winter lol. Will be doing the same thing with my new 99 XJ (except will also bedline it).
