My xj has a lot of sun damage on the hood and thought about painting it but someone suggested using a carbon fiber wrap cause it's cheaper and gives it some style. Has anyone tried this or found pictures of some? I own a 2000, it's a deep red paint and just didn't know how it would look. Any suggestions?

Idk about carbon fiber wrap. I have never Seen it. And I've been on the sight for a while...it might be a good project. But what are you going to do to the rest of the xj?...paint wise...maybe cheaper to strip and sand down you xj it paint it your self.. Don't hold me to that tho.. But that's my 2 cents... But a carbon fiber hood will be a great change

You can get a ton of different wraps. Sure Carbon fiber adds style, but if you're not 100% in love with the idea, I wouldn't do it. And I don't think it would look too great on a red XJ. But that's just personal opinion.
I'm looking into ways to keep my xj cool in the desert. Someone suggested louvers for the hood, but can't find a local shop that will do it. I'm thinkin possibly cutting slots through the inner wells to let the hot air through?

A pretty cool alternative I've seen used is paint your hood entirely black, then let it dry and once it's completely dried, take some silverware drawer grip, it's like a rubberish mesh you can buy in rolls and place it over top of the hood and then paint over it with a metallic grey color, and it gives the design of carbon fiber. I saw iit done on one of those car build shows, they were building a Cuda for Dana White and that's what they did to the hood. I've tried it once before and it turned out pretty cool.
Here's a pic of the grip.

If it is a cheap fix, then why worry about four to 5 years down the road? I mean, if you want to try it, why not? There seems to be a few decent ideas here, so why not try it like when ity comes to fixing the Jeep? Start with the cheapest first and work your way up. You may be surprised. Also, what happen if you don't like that stuff? Paint it the way you know you would like. Just figured i'd suggest that. You never know what might just strike you as an amazing addition to your jeep.
