So here's the line-up.
We were sitting around the campfire and got talking, who would do better offroad? 1996 dodge Dakota with LSD in the rear, the 318 and street 31's or my 2000 stock with open diffs. Both 4wd
I know this site is biased, but HONESTLY, who would do better?
We will eventually solve this on the trails, but he can't keep his truck in running order long enough to take it out

That's what I figured. But one must have confidence in ones own rig.
They all talk down on the jeep like it's a retarded step-child because it doesn't have a v-8, it has open diffs and is lower than their trucks.

i wouldn't jump to any conclusions.
i have both a v8 dakota 4x4 (1991, same as the 96), with limited slip and auto, club cab.
i walk around lifted jeeps with open diffs with no problem. and that was stock with michelin ltx m/s and the cherokee was 5 inch lift and 33 inch baja claws with open diff.
jeep suffered the one wheel spin while i walked around him and up the hill with no effort.
however, breakover angle, i was done, while he had to tug me off the lip.
but all in all, open area with hills, he will get you.

I had a 94 2wd, with stock tires, stock height....I high centered it a few times, but went most places stock jeeps went....the turning radius wasnt great, but hands down jeep would win on most trails if both drivers were "equal". a 4wd dakota could hold his own and keep up for the most part....but...jeep has the better rep off road....but all in all capability goes to the jeep, actual test would vary on the driver
