Buying a Grand Cherokee
I've been posting some on the introductions page about buying a '97-2001 Cherokee. Gotten some good advice too. Most of the Cherokees I have been seeing look rode hard / put up wet, or the money is sky high. Been told to avoid '97s and that the 2000-2001 Six has issues with a bad head redesign.
Safe to assume this applies to the Grand Cherokee too? I looked at a beautiful 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo last night, 154 K, very, very clean 1 owner with a clean history at a rural Ford dealer I trust. I'm sure I can talk to the lady who traded it, if it comes to that.
I expect they weigh more and have more gizmos, but are the Grand Cherokees more trouble than the regular Cherokee? We want some off road capabilty, but probably won't be modifying whatever we get.
Are all the Cherokees flat towable with out disconnecting stuff? It may get towed behind a Motorhome occasionally.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I can't speak from experience because I have never owned a grand cherokee, but I know from working in a garage that grand cherokees seem to be more prone to electrical issues. It could just be because grand cherokees have more bells and whistles than the regular cherokee. Not saying that they are bad vehicles or anything but just something to keep in mind.

Every vehicle has its quirks, the Grand has no more than the XJ. Buy one and enjoy many years of problem free driving.
I am coresponding with a Craigslist advertizer on an loaded '04 Grand Cherokee with the 6 & Quadratrac II. Low miles, very clean with a very attractive price (who knows, might be a scammer). My question is should I avoid the Quadratrac II and hold out for one w/ Selectrac?
Looks like this is a full time set up, as the photo I have seen of the shifter shows 3 positions: full time, neutral & Lo.
Appreciate any comments.

Not a fan of the WJ with a 4.0, I owned a 99, also with the full time tcase. Got horrible gas mileage, no power seemingly, and this may mot hold true for all of them but it developed tranny problems. Couldve been from lack of maintenance from previous owners, but it was too late by the time it made it to my hands. I must say tho the interior was quiet, and comfy. Also your lift options are limited if you want to go that route. After i believe 2" you need to start extending things and swapping additional parts. If i were you, i'd hold out for a 4.7 with the speed tranny, unless this price/mileage/options combo cant be beat.
False Alarm: It turned out to be one of those divorcee, out of state, pay me thru google & I'll ship you the car scams that Craigs is noted for.
Darn, I was already clearing a spot for it!
