with a cam, pistons, AND forced induction youll have the same amount of power as a 4.0 for a few weeks til it blows up.

Most people don't like that it doesn't have much power. I don't mind it at all personally. I've got two 4.0 Jeeps and a 2.5 Jeep (and they're all Renix Jeeps too, which most people don't like), and I'd rather drive my 2.5 XJ than either of my 4.0's. But that's just me.

I wouldn't build up a 2.5 though, accept it for what it is or swap in something more powerful like a V8.

I think you confuse power shifting/crappy tires and actual power.

Unless you are trolling.

I take it stock tire size with one legged rear and gravel will help it accomplish this.

A lot of people diss the 2.5, even more diss the 2.8... Personally my favorite engine that was ever available in these is the 2.8... With 30" tires (actual size, not listed size), my old 2.8 with the ax5 manual had more oomph than my current 4.0/automatic.

People say the 2.8 isn't reliable, but like any engine, if not maintained, it will die. The almighty 4.0 included.

I am constantly on the lookout for a 2.8/ax5 or 2.5/ax5 2 door XJ.

The 2.8 just seems like a shoddy design to me, I have not worked on one in years.

Wonder what happened to them?

My 2.8 refused to give up. I locked it up tight as a drum one day trying to get it out of a mudhole, got it out of the hole, pulled it down the road behind my old beater altima and let off the clutch in second gear at 40mph. Rear tires locked up for about half a second and the then motor broke loose and fired up. changed the oil and beat on it some more and never had another problem until I ended up having to get rid of it due to losing storage and scrapped it. Worst-mistake-ever!

Gearing does wonders. Ever wonder why the 2.5 has 4.11's? No power.

I've only ever seen 3 2.8L XJs outside of junkyards. 3/4 of the ones I see in junkyards have visible engine damage (seen several with holes in the block)
I also swear against that engine after my mom's old train wreck of a s10 blazer. She got rid of it when I was like 5 and I still have memories of the most miserable road trips ever with that ****box breaking down on nearly a daily basis.

And about the 2.5L roasting tires-BS. My friend's XJ has one and it can spin for a second if he dumps the clutch off the rev limiter on wet smooth concrete. otherwise a great little engine though
