You could score a really nice modded XJ on Craigslist for 5-7k, but you never know what you're getting. You could also get a really nice stock XJ on Craigslist for 2-3k and spend like $20,000 making it exactly what you want.

If it was me I would look for a LIGHTLY modded 97-99 with ~150k on it. That would be a great starting point. If you could find one with long arms that doesn't look hacked I would scoop that up.
