When my rear defrost failed it was broken connection to the heat braid at the window connection. I couldn't fix it. So used the stock on dash switch and the wiring to control some auxiliary lighting installed on the rear exterior. Just a thought.

I dunno man, my back window was all fogged over and I couldn't see anything today...I'd rather be able to burn that off and see...

Does the light on the switch come on when you turn it on? If it doesn't, check the fuse, relay, etc.
Mine didn't work either (but the light turned on), I finally found it was due to the wire breaking inside the rubber boot between the hatch and the roof. Soldered in a new piece and it works good as new.

The light comes on, but no go on the defroster. Guess I'll be opening the boot...
I don't need to drop the headliner at all, do I?
