The best pads would be the "Hawk" brand excellent stopping and no fading. Have been on my XJ for over 2 yrs. now still very good shape, have been using them on my race cars for a long time Drag/Circle Track/HP Street cars.
They are sold buy most of the larger venders.

I have had really good luck with Performance Friction brake pads on fleet vehicles that have gone through pads in as little as 7000 miles. They seat in fast and last a lot longer than Raybestos and Wagner pads.

I've never really understood the point of the WJ brake swap.
Here's why:
If I can lock up all fours with stock brakes, what good is adding more braking power that will just lock up all fours with less foot? Either way, I'll just end up skidding down the lane when I slam on the brakes.
I suppose there are other variables to look at that I'm just not understanding here. Perhaps the non-slamming of the brakes part where you just stop normally, eh?
I like the idea of rear disc brakes though because they actually perform better than drum in many conditions.

As for the stock front brakes. Ditch the metallic or semi-metallic pads and install quality ceramic pads on standard rotor. Has better 'grab' and less fading when hot. I noticed an improvement.
