Default Blow a U-joint

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last nite I blow the rear u-joint and the drive shaft smacked the road HARD!!!! Yall think it may have messed it up? The heep is sitting about 10 miles from home but i cant get to it right now to check it.

It blow out shifting from first to sencond at about 5000 RPMS. So i know it hit hard. It smacked the pavement and then bounced and hit the jeep before being dragged 100 yards down the road to the nearest store/pull over spot.

The brother-in-law was behind me he said it was a nice fireworks show!

I took the jeep off the road back in sept. been riding on farm use when i do drive it so It aint a big thing to get it fixed. It sounded like someone had put a gun beside my ear and pulled the trigger though when the u-joint went.

I have seen worst happen a the drag strip. Driveshaft came through a foxbodys floor and half out the windshield after a 100 dry shot.

But It pissed me off when it happened because I was in the middle of a nice burnout pulling out of a store. Was getting a little squirly and went to hit second was going try to spin them through third and BOOOM!!

Oooooh. It is a jeep though! Shouldn't be too bad had the same thing happen about two years ago just got a nice dent in the floor board and a busted ear off the yoke. Hopefully you have minimal damage and an easy fix.

x2, I have done that tooo many times, took a plastic bag, pulled it over the outlet of the transfer case and zipptied it on, kept the transfer case from losing fluid. even if you dont do that 10 miles is nothing its just splash by that comes out. Just a suggestion

Why'd it go to 5000 RPM? The highest I've ever seen mine go was about 3500.

i agree ^ if you spin 5000 all the time you well probably go through u-joints pretty quick. everytime i've blown them is when i'm really getting on it.....but i have a 5pd too and its just to hard not to take it up that far! i bring it up to 4,000 all the time and never have a problem.
