I run 31" Falken rocky mountain ats (same as wild peak) on my xj. I haven't put very many miles on them, they ride nice and smooth but I haven't tested them much yet in the dirt. I did tons of research before I chose them and from my findings they seem to offer very similar performance to a duratrac but cost a good bit less.

From my own experience:
Durra-tracks- last for ever... almost 50k. They grip ok on rocks and are the best I have tried on snow/ice.

SuperSwamper LTB- Good in the mud but terrible on the road. You slide around when wet/ice. They make a ton of noise on the road and wear fairly quickly.

SuperSwamper Thornbirds- Not really good at anything lol.

Kumho M/T- Much better on the road than either swamper but worse than the Durra-Track. Much better in mud than Durra-track but TERRIBLE in sand. So far about 15k in and about half tread.

TreadWright.com retreads- My set did rather well for itself... They did seem to cut up a bit on the rocks but they lasted along time and are real cheap. If add the extra money for "kege grip" or whatever they do pretty good on ice.

That is about the limit of my experience. This will be my next set as they are semi-affordable and I would like to try them. (The M/T) http://www.fiercetires.com/tires/attitude-mt/index.html
Love my KL71s! They do an amazing job out in the mud, tread looks aggressive, and they're on my DD.

They are a nice looking tire. i was looking at them too.i wanted to save some money.
but in my research i read that they have weak side walls. i dont know if its true. i guess it would depend on what kind of terrain you were runnin on. but just be forwarned.

x2 on the DTs in the snow. they are awesome in the rain and snow.

I run BFG ATs. Run great. Not much annoying road noise at all and doesn't KILL mpg.

It all boils down to the type of offroading you're doing. For example, I don't care to go through mud puddles and try to get my Jeep stock. And I like to stay away from killing myself with rocks...

I like exhibitions and roaming around a mountain and simple but fun trails. It's my daily driver so it's what I can do. The BFG ATs do perfect for me

I had a set of the old style MTRs that had literally almost no tread on them. They were terrifying in rain or snow, yet somehow never got me stuck in mud and never had too much bad slip on rocks. If only they were still available, the kevlars aren't as good except stronger sidewalls.
Now I run TSL super swampers. Horrible ride, louder than hell, but they look awesome and they grab rocks like a boss and obviously are awesome in mud
