Just read article the other day in the new fourwheeler magazine that tested 15 oil filters. The kn and mobil 1 seemed to be the best to me. They figured they were the same filters. They wouldnt say which was best but thats what i saw it as.

I'm a Napa Gold person (made by wix), K&N are fine but spendy for my preferences. Motorcraft makes a surprisingly good filter and they are fairly affordable.

You guys using K&N know that it's just a Mobil1 filter with a nut welded to the bottom right? Save a few bucks and get the Mobil1.

I use the Pureolator PureOne (the yellow ones) filters pretty consistently unless a better one is on sale. 99.9% efficient.

This is a GREAT guide from a guy that took a bunch apart and looked at the construction/internals for comparison.

They're both made by Champion if I'm not mistaken. I did a lot of reading last night after the other guy said I put crap in my Jeep, but I'm not on my computer now, so I can't confirm that.

To be 100% honest, the first two, and the fourth seem a little bit biased to me, but I googled it, and clicked on four or five from the first page of results.

Wix filters arent what they use to be.

I would never use a fram. I didnt notice a difference in oil filter from a carquest filter to a mobil 1 filter. Ive had good luck with napa / carquest filters.

I use K&N part # 3001. It's the same threads as the part # 2004 that the book calls for, but it's larger with more filter media. I'm sure the other manufacturers are similar, just don't know the part #'s
