Before Hitting The Tails Checklist
Before heading out and enjoying trails I always check and go over a few thing with my Jeep.
Always start out with the overall inspection of things. I always start under my jeep checking the front and rear diffs. Then I check out the suspension, brakes, and drive line components and finally check the transfer case fluid then move the the engine. Check all the fluids under the hood along with belts, hoses,, and battery/electrical connections. Only takes 15-20 minutes max and gives you a nice idea of what condition everything is in.
Then I bring whats needed for the trails I'll be on. Things to almost always have with you though is a first aid kit - A pretty complete one can be bought for under $25 bucks and if you ever need it you'll be happy you had it. Next is a fire extinguisher. Pretty much for safety even if you never use the one time you need it you'll be glad you had it. Same as the first aid kit a good 5lb ABC extinguisher shouldn't be more than $25 bucks. Finally always bring a strap and a few shackles with you. Don't forget to bring a spare with the jack. Have seen it more than once a rig with a flat and no spare on the trail. What should only be a 10 minute set back to change out tires ends up taking hours.
Also bring along a simple set of tools the common wrenches, sockets, pliers and few screwdrivers and of course a hammer or two. any spare parts you might need also.
Bring extra fluids incase you need them. Oil, Tranny, Gear oil, Power steering, Brake.
Once you have everything you need it should only take 30 minutes or less to make sure you have everything with you and have inspected your Jeep. Im sure others have more things they brings thats just my list pretty simple but covering the basics.
Also going to be doing a write up on after trail riding maintenance shortly.
