Was off work today so I did some trail riding. Found a little mud too. A guy at the gas station joked "Are you going to take it to the car wash looking like that?" I said no, not going to wash it, this is what it's supposed to look like. LOL

I hate mud haha
but maybe the guy was being serious, because you're really not supposed to take your vehicle in when it's full of mud...a local owner of the biggest car wash in town will turn you away on the spot haha

It'll rain again someday and rinse it off. lol That's how we do it in the desert, wear it with pride!
i get the same ration of **** from everyone i know. “why do you drive that pos 250k mile jeep?”. yes, it requires *gasp* maintenance...and getting dirty hands occasionally. my answer - because i want to. yes, i can afford whatever i want, but that doesn’t mean i should go buy a new vehicle. i like my xj, honestly not sure i like it so much, though.

You should come to my area hhaah...it's the opposite. Everyone drives older vehicles for the most part, or at least has one as their commuter. My friend just bought a 91 xj with 275k. Doesn't look too great, but he gets tons of compliments haha!!!

Organic body armour...
yeah..but Bugout.... that won't happen until late July early Aug. with the Monsoons. lol She'd be good and clean then!
I remember those.... my house was out a few miles from the bigger town..and some of those dips in the road right after the monsoons were so filled with rain that it would almost touch the bottom of my 4x4 Tacoma with a 3" lift on it.
And even though it wasn't a Jeep... I was in the middle of the AZ desert...and do you think I could leave one of those instant rain filled mini lakes alone?
hell no.... I went right through them because I could.

Same up here in CO for the most part. Lots of newer cars/trucks... but most seem to have at least one older one in decent nic. for commuting or wheeling depending on what it is obviously.
I'll be rollin' my XJ down through your neck of the woods in about a week on my way to AZ. Hope she does well. First time I'll have taken her on that long of a trip, so I've done all the maintenance I can think of, will just take it slower and hope for the best..... I think she'll be okay.

I do that too. Makes my wife mad. lol "What good is a desert vehicle if you are afraid to get some desert on it?"

meh. my friends drive nice vehicles. new trucks, cars etc. we all grew up working on stuff together. apparently they grew tired of it.
FIFY
I enjoy having a vehicle I just pretty much have to refuel once in a while, my Summer vehicle I work on when I want to.
ha this was true 10 years ago. we’ve graduated to heated work areas with air and lifts. full size trucks and car trailers with winches if it’s immobile. i have several vehicles in case the jeep takes an impromptu pto day. thankfully ive spent more late nights working on the vette or someone else’s dd junk than my own.
Bought my XJ Sport new in 1991... only "new" vehicle I've ever owned. Bought the one with the least electronics, so it would be easy to work on.
Still own it today, and it's older than my marriage (Married 25 years).
Will I get rid of it? No
Will I give it to one of my daughters? No
Why do I keep it? Because I can.
I've had so many experiences and memories in this thing, not all are exciting, but all were memorable:
Getting to meet so many people by pulling countless folks out of ditches, one off the side of a mountain.
Pulling my best friend's truck out of the mud late one night.
High-siding it in a mud rut right outside of my apartment when I was in college. It dried up and locked the jeep there tightly. Had to look at it every day when I walked out the door to go to school. Had to wait for another rain to loosen the soil and had a buddy pull me out.
Driving to the slopes of New Mexico and Colorado countless times during college. Didn't need chains to get up the mountains like everyone else did.
Jumping this thing out of the many "craters" in west Texas.
Surfing the many flooded parking lots after west Texas rains.
Driving with the cab flooded, water over my pedals... opening the door and letting the water flow out the door.
Made out with my girlfriend (later wife) in the back... outside her house when we were dating.
Driving off from the church with my wife, immediately after we got married.
Wrenching on it... replacing all the things I need to in order to keep her running.
Taking my kids to school in it.
Putting a lift on it with my best friend.
Teaching my oldest daughter how to drive a "stick" in it.
Hope to have many more memories in this thing... "Because I can!"
