Have you recently installed anything new? (ie radio, amp, any other electrical item?)

Happened to me, it ended up being the cooling fan relay stuck on. You don't really think anything of it because it stays running to cool off after you shut it off. The thing is it stays running all night, so I drove it until it was good and warm come home shut it off and waited. It should only stay running for a few minutes.

Mine never stays on, and I have a 2001. Strange, unless the previous owners did something

It only comes on if you use the AC, and don't shut the air off before you shut off the Jeep. It's the aux fan relay.

How's your wiring harness looking? My buddy had this problem in his Comanche. The previous owner hacked up the wiring really bad. If wires look original, I'd say try a battery from another car.

So you need to go to the junkyard and find an 89 or 90 XJ with good wiring. The harnesses are pretty straight forward to remove. I suck at electrical but helped a buddy do his, helps to tag them and take pics. If you go the junkyard/donor vehicle route, you'll get experience.

Reason I did not say 87 or 88 is the C101 connector, you don't want to deal with that.

It's not certainly the wiring harness... Take baby steps first.

Even though your battery is relatively new, take it to the auto parts store and get it load tested. They should do this for free.

Also give ALL your grounds a good refreshing. You should see shiny metal on all of them.

Sounds like your going to have to do the fuse pull test using a meter to find parasitic drain or draw.

This should help, if its drawing to much current when off set up the meter and start pulling fuses until it drops to a normal range.
