I've had good luck with my Yellow top for 7 years, this winter I wasn't sure it was going to make it. I wasn't positive and would to have to scramble for the coin but hopefully this fall i can get http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinu...1&blockType=G1

It's a rebadgged Odyssey, with a 36 mo warranty.

You basically have to find a good high amp charger, (like the good roll around ones) and blast them on start for like 4hrs.

My friend had a red top a few years ago on his Honda. He bought it new. Then he did a motor swap. During the swap he just left the battery on the floor of his garage. After the swap, battery goes in, ya, its dead. He puts it on his charger and it draws like zero amps. WTF? So he takes the battery back to Walmart, weird dude in line behind him says 'those things are like frankenstein, they need a ton of juice to bring em back from the dead. you gotta leave em on start for at least 4hrs...so he tries it at the stealership where he works and, yeah, it worked. That was 6-7 years ago, he's still got that battery!

Whew, thumb cramp!

This is good to know thanks, guess i will have to give them one more try.

Take this with a grain of salt...

...but I've only ever run the cheap Auto Zone batteries in every car I've own, including my 77 Cutlass which sat in storage every winter.

I would take the battery out and put it on a shelf in my closet, then in spring, put the battery back in the car and after lubing the cylinders, would turn the key - it never failed me. Never.

Here's a video of the first start up of spring(ish) with no charger on the battery while it was in my closet. You can see that even with all the cranking, it never even gets weak.

So what's my point with all of this? Don't buy the marketing. A battery is generally a battery, if you maintain your vehicle.

Meaning - don't use the battery without the engine running for extended periods of time (like to listen to the radio or run headlights or something).

Try to turn off your accessories before shutting the engine off, so the battery has less to do when starting back up.

Believe it or not, extreme cold isn't always what kills batteries - extreme heat is actually worse because it can cause the cells to burst.

Some of you guys running a crap load of accessories might want a more rugged battery, but if you're not... you might find that you can save some money by buying a "cheap" battery, and never have any trouble at all.

Marketing will lie to you. Always remember that.

I just bought a EverStart battery for my XJ from O'riellys for $109.74 and it has 3 year free replacement. I run the same batteries in my 1997 Cummins truck and never have i had a problem with them.
