Default bad luck never ends

Hello all,
I recently bought a 98 xj 2.5l 5 spd 4x4 and it blew up 3 days later. I'm currently looking for another 2.5. Any input as to where to find one on here would be helpful. Or would i be better off going with a 4.0? I don't know much about xj's as far as what engine is compatible with my tranny ect ect. This will be a DD/hunting rig that WILL be off road, but not doing any serious stunts

ps If im not posting this in the right place or something please let me know. I'm sure i'm messing something up.

2.5l are rarer than 4.0. I read that the 4.0 to 2.5 ratio is 80%. Check your local craigslist for part outs, you may have to search places a few hours away. I have only seen one four cylinder cherokee in the junkyard compared to 15+ 4.0s. You might want to consider rebuilding it if possible. Everything forward of the transfer case will have to be swapped. You will need the 4.0 wiring harness. Also The 4.0 also has the ax-15 not ax-5. The ax-5 won't work with the 4.0. Also I think the motor mounts are different.

thanks MonacaYankee,
I have searched and found a couple with 150,000+miles for crazy money ($1000). There is a fist sized hole in the block, so rebuild is out of the question. I talked to a guy at a junkyard and he told me that Dodge Dakotas years 97-02 had the same 2.5 my jeep does. That is probably my next step

98-01 Dakotas used the same 2.5l. Keep your jeep manifolds. What I found on Google anyway but it pertains to wranglers.
