Looking at the pic, the inner structure is prob bent. It looks pushed in so much under the plate along the bottom the right side next to the trail light bent out as a result....just replace it, it will never be perfect or straight if you fix it

It's not worth the $ to have the insurance company fix it imo. I'm done in this thread. A vehicle over 10+ years will have dents and scratches if it's a dd no matter how hard the person tries it just happens.

Eventually it will get to the point of spending more $ for body work on a vehicle than it's worth.

So he should have to live with a damaged tail gate or sub par repair, the cause of which wasn't his fault?

I'm not going to argue about this with you. The original post asked for advice about the dent. Gave my opinion some people agreed that's it.

If he wants to spend the $ paying his insurance to fix this that's his choice
