Next spring I plan on swapping my axles so my question is would swapping my d30 out for a 44 front and keeping the 8.25 in the back be good or should I go ahead and swap the rear for an 8.8. I beat the hell out of them and wanna go full width eventually. I'm tired of breaking parts but they're super cheap for me so it's no big deal.
Comment what you think, I don't have a massive budget by the way.
and my tire size will most likely be 35" but could go to 39.5 if I came across them

 

What kind of D44? If you like really big tires and breaking **** it sounds like you should be running at least a D44/D60 or 14-bolt.

 

sounds like you should check out google, i heard they know a lot about axle swaps.

99% of the people on here DO NOT need a 44 front, or anything bigger than a built 30 for that matter.

small budget and D44 front do not mix. if you're breaking D30 stuff on a 35" tire or smaller, you'll never make a D44 last on 39's. ever

if your skinny pedal is to the floor for the whole trail and you're even considering 39's, it's 1 ton axles or nothing

and as mentioned, google it. these answers have been answered 100 times over. various swaps, axle pairings, strengths and cost. go gather some information then ask informed questions. sounds like you know virtually nothing about it so far

 

Are you breaking stock ones? What ujoints? Toss in some RCVs.

 

If 39s are even a remote possibility skip the 44. Mine with chromos breaks from time to time with 38s. And there are no cheap axle swaps so start saving your pennies. A D60 that needs rebuilt and brackets added will run a grand. 2-3k for one ready to bolt in.

The best year D60s are 78-79 out of F250 and 350s due to the larger driver side tube. Later years have a very small tube and require you to raise your coil mount. If you run air shocks or coilovers this isn't as big of an issue.

Yes. They didn't start using ball joints till close to the 90s. Good luck in your search. I found one a few years back for 900, which was a steal, but ended up selling it before I could build it.
