I would too like to know why that would be bad. Would it be better if you had lockers front and rear in snow and ice then?

sorry for my newbie-ness, but how bad would it be handling it in the snow with front and rear lockers? I do a lot of snow and ice driving and was looking to get some lockers, but now I might just get a rear locker.

Lockers in the snow will tend to make the Jeep want to track straight instead of actually turning. You could drop it back in 2wd when making the turns and put it back in 4wd when straight again. Just take the turns super slow. Or just removed them for winter. It would be a good time for annual gear oil maintenance anyway.
If you want to see how it will react, take it in some good mud and try to turn the wheel. You'll keep going straight.

I never drive in snow and ice conditions in 4wd, unless it is in deep snow. ( more than a few inches ) Good tires, with the centers siped and learning how to drive on ice and snow will do more for you than 4wd on ice.
I always run lockers front and rear on my trail rigs and never have a problem with spinning out or turning on snow and ice.

Tire condition has more to do with how your rig will drive in snow and ice than a traction enhanced differential.
