Audio Help
So when I bought my XJ, it came with these two things in the back, as well as a pair of tweeters in front, but they stopped working.
I'm not much of an audio guy. I work with computers, so I could figure out wiring and maybe even fix it mechanically, but as far as what's what and what I have/need, it's beyond me. I'm assuming I have a sub and an amp, right? I'm trying to find the Memphis amp's info page to help you guys tell me if it's good or not. I want to redo my audio, since the tweeters died and I'm only using the sub for music. What are some good speakers? Any places inside a 92 I can tuck them away so they're hidden when the doors are off?
Cheers

Your radio may have burned out. I had the same problem. It actually burned the plug. If you get an eight inch bass tube, you can stash it in the back with no problem. Also, check out MTX, they have fantastic speakers with good quality sound.

Well the tweeters stopped working due to the quick disconnects, since my doors come off. I play audio via aux no issue, but it's just coming from the sub and sounds bad. I'm hoping what I have now is decent enough to still use it, that way I can put more into nicer speakers. Do I just add an additional 2 speakers or should I get the tweeters as well?

I also don't think I could fit/mount a bass tube. It looks like it'd eat up cargo space. Since I store coolers and tool boxes in the back. Is what I have now just a speaker or is it a sub?

Is it a 2 channel amp? Run wire to the speakers that go on the back gate. Should be a 5 1/4". If there aren't speakers there, there should be a mount for them. You can run wires from the amp pretty easy.

So I've been thinking of going with a pair of mid/high speakers upfront, then adding in a set of lower speakers somewhere. Possibly the hatch? I mostly listen to hard rock/metal music, and would like to have good quality. Thoughts?
I looked at the amp more, and took a few pics. I also found the model number, which I can't find an info page.. It's a Memphis P8C200.
Then this might not be of any help, but here it is:

I run two 5.25"s speakers, in the front doors, two 6x9" in the rear hatch, one 10" sub in rear pocket, a 5 channel 1400 watt amp under the rear seat. And it sounds great! But I used a very good headunit.

Am I looking for something like a 3 way speaker? Or what's the best setup for hard rock/metal music? And how do I determine if I need a new headunit?
This is either the exact one or an almost identical kind of headunit I have now: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/prod...lId=MODL028469

I used 3 way (full range) Rockford fosgates. I don't want to get into the preferred speaker argument (that seems to happen here) Get what brand you like, but yes, use 3 way. My head unit is a old pioneer DEH-90HDD (with 6 pair's of pre out (RCA's use to go to the amp.) My amp is a old 1400 watt 5 channel Pyle) So I have 250 watts going to the four corner speakers, and 400 watts going to the sub. Even though my amp has all the necessary cross overs. I use My head unit to do all of that. Using the remote for my head unit, from the driver's seat. All done and said, maybe $800 into it. But it sounds like a concert hall. I'm very happy with it. And loud enough, to put any young kid's thumping Honda to shame next to me at a street light. I guess they don't expect it from a 21 year old car, with a 50+ year old guy sitting in it.

X2 on the 3 way. I have Kenwood (unk model # but newer +/- 2 yrs) 3 ways in front doors and rear sound bar area and they sound fantastic. All run off my JVC head unit. Clear highs and everything - distortion @ all. All followed up by a MA audio 12" sub in ported enclosure @300rms via Eclipse amp. Roughly 400 bones all together and Its awesome.. Moral of story 3ways ftw. Ok im done lol
