Hey mike youve made some good points. Ive just developed that lift itch.... And thinking more about it 2inches would serve my purposes fine for now lol considering what its used for. My main concern is saftey due to my family and other people on the road, i just want to make sure im doing it right. That kit looks good and i know its a trusted proven brand and as far as i know at this point (not saying im right) seems to have everything minus the u bolts. Im pretty weak in the suspension area and need to know what im up against before doing anything. Changing parts is easy knowing the whole effect is another story lol

i like that kit, seems to solve the tbar issue and other issues...anyone have more insight on the 2 in lifts?

Again thanks

Like I say, you and I are going through a similar situation. I can't remember where but somewhere on this site I found some pictures of XJ's lifted 2" with 30" tires and it looks pretty cool and is quite a change from the factory set-up. I do think buying new spring packs is wise, and that's why everybody recommends it, but that's a personal decision we all need to make. When I first started looking at lifting the truck I kept thinking "If your gonna lift it than lift it big as long as your speding the money" but after reading and listening to the folks here I learned that's not always the best solution for a daily driver, at least for me anyhow.

Keep in mind from the factory it came with P225 70R15, so that's a diameter of 28.3 inches. With a 2" lift that's a 3" increase from the ground to the bottom of the rocker, quite a change from bone stock. It looks nice and I still have a daily driver for the wife. Again, I did run into some nice pictures here on the forum and that's what sold me on it.

I want a 1987 Cherokee for myself because I love the grill etc. When I find one I would like to go much bigger and tread it much harder.

Mike

Yeah were in the same boat lol i just happened to be joking around when i mentioned a lift to my wife she always says no hahaha but i got the green light for once and well im lookin into it. The lift isnt just for looks and tires would be down the road (im already running new 235/75/r15 kelly safari msr's) but it isnt to climb huge rocks and stuff either. A lift here is functional for the snow alone we get at times lol.

Now i suppose my main issue is knowing what else is needed outside of that kit besides u bolts...

And i will search some pics when im not sitting in my jeep on my phone lol

I did come to a realization though!

I'm a pilot and love airplanes. In the aviation world there is a long running joke that any REAL pilot knows you have to have 2 airplanes because we have 2 types of flying. The first is low and slow, nothing better than flying around the state at 500 feet with the doors off and watching the people and wildlife below on a warm summer evening. You can fly slow and low because this type of airplane has a ton of drag but a low stall speed and can land anywhere, like in a farm field. They max out at about 100 mph and can fly at slow as 50 mph safely. The problem is always going cross country, it sucks to fly slow when you need to get somewhere.

The second plane is for just that, a cross country slammer. When going cross country you want to fly at 250mph but the stall speed goes way up so you need altitude to be safe, and altitude is boring as hell because all you see is clouds etc. Anyway, in the aircraft forums the conversation is similar to the Jeep forums, how can you have ONE that does both. In the airplane world I always laugh because it's nearly impossible to be happy with just one airplane to serve both "Low and slow" and "Fast and safe" and the answer is almost always to have 2 airplanes. In fact, most pilots do own 2 airplanes because of this.

When I joined this forum I started down the same path. I wanted a DD and a mudslinging rock crawler out of the same truck, my wife's truck.....Nice try. I soon learned that like the airplane situation I need 2 Cherokees, not always an easy or affordable task.

Funny how life is always a compromise!

ill heartily recommend OME if you have deeper pockets, mine just kicks butt. every time i drive it.

it handles better than stock (quite noticeably), rides very well, and is almost complete (all my kit was missing was shackles). but of course the higher you go, you have to get into SYEs or TC drops, trackbar, swaybay links (or disconnects). DPG Offroad sold me my kit, theyre good guys in my book.

well figured i would update on this to finish it up, Mike, thanks for swaying me towards that lift, its ordered as of the moment with some new U-bolts. I weighed it out for a few days, and after some more reading and searching found it to be what i was looking for after all. Also after measurements 2 in IS more than what i had in my head when first thinking about it.

Also thanks to whowey for a golden chunk of info, which probably saved me from a lot of issues down the road.

Ill make another thread after i get it/install it, and my other 30,000 projects i have going at the moment!
