Also, I have a 91 parts Cherokee but I drive an 87. As I have been dismantling the 91 to salvage one part or another I have noticed things you all might like to know.
First, it has a mechanical speedometer. Second, all of the wiring is identical (except for the plug for the cruise control) between both years but the keys are a different style. I switched the 91 column into my 87 and everything except for the cruise control works fine, but my cruise control didn't work in the first place so I don't really care about that bit.
I know it isn't much but I hope it helps someone
Yeah Im guessing all the road salt MI uses rusted them all out lol. Thanks for the info on wiring and the gauge cluster. It's cool to see what swaps over.

they made some changes the floor plan in the 97+ cherokees and the seats will not swap across the line as you call it. yes with some fabrication, but that statement is misleading. sounds like a direct bolt in, but its def not.
Correction - the floor was redone in 95 and carried through to 01. 84-94 XJ's can swap seats with each other as well as MJ's. 95-01's can swap seats with XJ's in those same years as well as 93-98 ZJ's.

You can do it. You just need the speed sensor off of the 91/92 Wrangler. It has both a cable connection and the electronic one. Autozone Part Number: SU3008 Then just wire it up.

This is all fascinating info!

I've got a question, seeing as I've got a 96 and the exhaust manifold has cracked (between where the two branches of three join together) is there a better stock manifold out there that will fit? Also, while I'm there, should I be looking to swap out the inlet manifold for a "better" one at the same time?

Thanks

Thank you - both! - for that.

Just because I'm researching this sort of thing doesn't mean I always get it right without my notes...
