so i just put $100 down an xj tonight and i want to make sure it's an alright deal. 1996, 4 door, 4 cyl, 5 speed, 117k miles. truck is from florida so no rust. it needs tires and a windshield. was $2500 a good deal? also what kind of mileage can i expect from this truck? thanks very much!!!

Do a tune up on it first thing. When I had my 4cyl wrangler and stock tires I was able to get 20-21 out of it if I did a lot of highway driving. 5" of lift later and 33" tires I was still able to manage 16-18mpg with a 4cyl.

if the jeep looks good, then yeah thats a pretty good deal. with the 4cyl 5 speed in the xj, your driving style decides you mpg. If i baby it and try to milk all the gas i can, i can get around 25 or so highway, but no matter what you do you prob wont get over 17 city, or at least mine doesnt...but who knows it could be cause i drive like an indy racer all the time

it doesnt seem like too bad a deal, i know my buddy who has the same setup as you in his cherokee (tons of rust so "weight reduction"), he gets maybe 21-25 on our trips to lincoln which is about an hour and a half drive from where we live, in the city he's closer to 15-18 dependin on the "hot babes" he tries to seduce. i on the other hand get 11 no matter what i do, but i dont mind one bit (dont worry ive got the v6 with some stuff done to it, and i drive it like i stole it). no matter what tho im pretty sure you'll be happy with it

i'm curious what "some stuff" means though, i have yet to find any upgrades that dont require a crapload of money, such as edelbrock intakes....

I just bought one like yours with 37k on a new motor (Inline 6 and aw-4 auto) for $1800 and new tires on it. have not bought that many but bet you could jew them down a bit more.
