Hello all. I have a quick question regarding operation of the AC in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee I bought a while ago. I'm a little perplexed by how you control the AC turning on and off. From what the instruction manual makes it sound like, there is no single on/off switch for the AC but switching it over to the left side of the dial is what activates the AC... But that it's also controlled by if it's above freezing or not. The only reason this is a concern is that the right side of the dial doesn't have a dash/floor vent setting and when I flip mine over to that setting on the AC side, even when it's really cold out, I can hear the engine's load change. I would assume that it would have to be on the AC side of the dial and have the temperature dial cranked all the way to cold.
I could be getting this all wrong from the manual but I don't think I am. Any explanation or help would be provided. I just hope I haven't been running the AC and the heat at the same time. Thanks! - Colt
PS - While I enjoy having AC occasionally, the extra complexity involved is an absolute nightmare.

i dont understand how you dont understand it. if it has a blue picture, it means the a/c will be on. if it doesnt, the a/c wont be on (unless you pick defrost, since that can activate the a/c to dry the windshield faster). there is no mix of dash and floor for heat. thats just the way it is, most american cars were like this until the 90s.
