Advice on Replacing my 95 Cherokee with a Jeep Liberty
I have a 95 Cherokee XJ. I'm in the market for a 2010-2011 vintage vehicle. I was thinking about a Ford Escape but I am also interested it the Jeep Liberty. I have heard the the new Liberty's are not reliable. This is according to consummers guides.
Anyone here own a Liberty? Just wondering what the consensus is. I don't want to buy something that requires a lot of repair.
Also, I'm not trading my 95. I plan on restoring it as a retirement project. The 95 XJ is probably the best vehicle that I have ever owned but I can't drive it forever.

I don't own a Liberty, but have a friend who has one. They are a pretty nice daily driver and of course have a smoother ride than the XJ. These are not a great off road vehicle at all.
Yes, reliability is very so-so. And I don't think that their gas mileage is that great.
I'd check out the Liberty Forum over on the Jeep Forum.

If you could buy one at the right price, I wouldn't be afraid of it.

The mentality that Liberty's are for girls is ****ing retarded. Kinda like TJ's are for Cheerleaders... again, ****ing retarded.
Now, I actually liked the Liberty's. I've owned 2 of them. I had a 2002 Liberty Renegade and a 2005 Liberty Renegade. Between the 2 of those Jeeps I went thru three 3.7 Engines (One of them I bought with a blown motor). Milage was around 14mpg on both of them (when they ran)
My buddy just flew to Texas last week. The airport gave him a brand spankin new Jeep Liberty with 79 miles on it. He said he had to take it back because it was skipping like hell.
So, I'll never purchase one for those reasons. Not because "Liberty's are for girls".
DA.

I've driven a prelude and a jetta so I know girl cars...
There are no compelling reasons to buy a liberty imo, that's all. No reason to get mad. It looks like a bubbly cartoon jeep with a crap engine

Thank you all for your advice. Looks like I'll skip the Liberty and get the Ford Escape (or Mercury Mariner). Just thought that the Liberty would be more durable than the Escape (truck vs crossover)
