I just joined this Forum, and wouldn't consider myself a car expert whatsoever. I have owned a 98 Cherokee Sport since 2010 and after living in Manhattan for the last 4 years, and my XJ stored in my parents garage in FL I have moved to Atlanta and have started to upgrade my Jeep which I have been excited to do for a very long time. So far I have put on a roof rack, new paint job, and new head unit/speakers. I am now wanting to lift it and potentially space the tires. Which I know nothing about. I will not be doing any off-roading outside maybe some dirt roads when going hiking/fishing/hunting. I am wanting to lift it more for cosmetic reasons. My question is what should I be looking to do to give this Jeep an off-road cosmetic while keeping the driving integrity for riding around the city? Basically what can I add that will still keep the ride relatively smooth, and also keep the turn radius? Thank you!
Lovely XJ! Perhaps a moderate 2 - 3 inch would serve you well on both trails and pavement! I have Old Man Emu springs and shocks, tubular lower control arms. sway bar disconnects and 235/75/r16 AT tires. Not cheep - but it will last years
Old Man Emu 3=1/4" lift
This is an example of what you can do with a moderate lift:
