My 87 XJ seat have lost some of their pep. I was considering gluing some 2-3" foam over the original seat foam. Has anybody done this? What thickness would be good? How long did it last? I also saw about steaming the cushions back to life but I'm now sure how long that lasts.

Get the foam from an upholstery shop, the stuff at fabric stores is not firm enough.

 

Why not just 6 the original foam & start from scratch? Those seats are 26 years old and probably packed with stink.

way back when i added some 2" foam to my driver's seat. idk where it was from, i think it was in my attic. it worked pretty good. yea.
