'98 Cherokee Battery Drain
My son has a '98 XJ, the other day he was in a parking lot and it wouldn't start.
Called me, tried jumping decided battery was bad, 2 year old 2 year warranty Wal-Mart battery. Went and got new battery and everything was good.
That night he goes to his girlfriends house and it starts fine when he leaves our place but he needs a jump start when he heads home.
Next few days it starts fine and all is well.
One day its dead again, so I search and try the remove negative battery cable and place meter in between test. Here is what I have to pull to eliminate any current flowing.
Removed door lock fuse in kick panel block (not to worried about that one)
Removed power amplifier fuse in the Power Distribution Center (not to worried about that one)
Removed Combination Flasher use in the PDC (not to worried about that one)
Removed fuel pump relay fuse, this one concerns me
Removed fuse labeled "Junction Block, TCM, underhood lamp/switch" I unhooked the lamp under the hood and this one still draws. This one controls the instrument cluster as well as dome lights.
Before I removed the door lock fuse, I had to remove the large 50 amp fuse in the PDC for the "junction block" removing the door lock fused allowed me to reinstall the 50 amp fuse. So what junction block does the one with the TCM control?
I also removed ALL wires from the alternator to see if there was a drain back through it and it didn't help.
I know I used the term control regarding the fuses instead of protect so ignore that error please.
This is driving me nuts and searching hasn't helped me much.
So my main question is "Has anyone had issues with the fuel pump system draining your battery or had any issues with the fuse for the junction, TCM, underhood lamp/switch?"
On another note, we already replaced all the cables and added big ground cables every place we needed them.
Thanks for any help fellas
