Default is 97 a good year for cherokee's?

i already own a lifted 94 but im gona go look at a 97 cherokee sport its gona be a stock dd for the wife so no lift or suspension upgrades. is there any pros or cons to this year? and whats the deal with the sport package? also im not wanting to pay more then 3200 for it is that a fair deal? its got 160k. thanks.

97 was the first year of the refreshing.. different front, interior, steel hatch, safety upgrades. 99 would be the ideal year to buy (2000+ have head issues)

^this x2^ I have a 2000 myself.....but if I could do it all over I would have really looked for a 99 (had I known more about XJ's at the time)....best year in my oppinion as well.

cool thanks ya i know about most of the changes i just didnt know if there were any bad things about it like the head crack problems in the newer ones.

sport will have the black/gray bumpers and trim and basic steel wheels. classic will have matching paint all through out with alloy wheels. limited has all the options

3200 isn't too bad, I paid 2900 for my 99 w/ 169k

I don't know much about 97s but I think they are essentially the same as my 99, which I love. But, if you could find a 99 for a good price, jump on that.

My 97 has been my favorite of all my Jeeps and it's a sport as well but mine came with alloy wheels and power everything but cloth seats.

I've got a 98 and it's been great. I paid 1600 bucks for mine though, with 168k miles.
