did you take it to a ligt shop sounds to me $700 isnt that much to pull the engine and repair that piston .... did they not give you guys a warranty at all sounds to me theyr charging for the rebuild parts and gaskets again or just the 7-10hrs it takes to r&r the motor assuming its a 4.0

also... btw im my mind doing this stuff for a living, if thats what they told you im trying to make some sense out of that story a piston would not burn through just from being loose or installed wrong more likely from a super lean fuel mix in that cylinder from a bad injector or maybe offset timing

2500 sounds about right for a reman. engine and the install, but most all reputable shops give at least a one year warranty, so unless the 700 is labor for the remove and replace I can't figure it.

Guys, she clearly says in post #4 that he and his buddies have been performing all the work. So unless he's paying his friends for his time, the numbers given so far are just for parts.

Reality Check time - is he really spending all that on parts? He could have bought a decent running jeep!

Like I said, 2500 for parts is just way more than he should have spent unless he did lots of other stuff. That is why I said that 2500 for a reman. engine and the install sounded about right.

I'm trying to figure out what he possibly spent $2500 on for repairs? I bought a running but near basket case 97 for $1500 and for $1100 more everything on it now works properly.

She mentions "aftermarket" work in post #1. He could have done a lift kit, seat covers, new rims and tires, roof rack, light kit, $1000 stereo system, whatever. We don't have his story.

Yes, it's a ton of money and doesn't make sense, but I've seen people spend way more than that on accessories on trying to pimp out their vehicle.

Or would rather his $$$ go somewhere else....

I'd rather sink my hard earned $$$ into my 18 year old XJ than go shopping, or get my nails done. Just sayin'.

Realllll reality check time. What chick signs up to a Cherokee website, calls her boyfriends truck an "XJ" and knows what piston is bad.

Don't feed the troll.
