Default 94 jeep tranny

I have a 1994 Jeep Gran Cherokee Laredo with the 4x4 FULL Time, im guessing its a Quad-Trac Transmission but im not too sure. i looked in my owners manual and thats what it said but also listed a few other transmission type, by the way, my engine is a V-8. so my problem is I bought the Jeep for 1000.00, clean exterior and interior and in amazing shape but now the Jeep will not go in reverse, and has troubles shift from time to time when driving. I know my tranny is going out but im trying to make sure i buy the right transmission for my year and type of Jeep. any ideas or answers would help out a ton!! thanks guys

A good start would be to decode your VIN number or heck, just climb under your Jeep with a light, scrub off the dirt and check both sides of your tranny for an OEM model stamp or plate. Some have them and some don't but it's worth a try. LOL...and if you're going to keep a Jeep that you paid only $1000.00 for....you will be doing some upkeep and other maintenance to...so get familiar with that underside. I know every square inch of mine very well.

Yeah, 91-96 regular Cherokees were all pretty much the same and if your grand had the 4.0 litre six I'd bet your auto tranny is an AW-4 like mine...but those V-8 Grands are a whole other animal. I bet since it has a Dodge motor in it (5.2 is a dodge 318) Your Grand most likely has a Dodge auto tranny of some sort behind the V-8. sorry i couldn't be more help.
