87 Cherokee..should I buy it?
I found a 2 door '87 cherokee 4x4 5 spd that needs a little work but it runs, drives, and has a clean title. They guy told me he'd take $350 for it but he doesn't really know anything else about it (i.e. axles, t-case, etc) I haven't seen it in person and it's 3hrs from where I live. He said it makes a funny noise when you start it, 3rd gear is kinda "funny" and the gas tank has a leak. Oh, and it's painted OD green. Let me know what you guys think cause I think it might not last long.
I HOPE I WISH I PRAY that it has a D44 in the rear.

I'm in AL. I don't have much time or money to fix the things it needs but I might in the next year or so and I think it would be worth it to have a 2 dr that I can turn into a trail rig and let my 2KXJ be my DD.

Yeah, it's a 4.0, clean title. He already came down to $350 but that's not gonna stop me from trying to go lower.

I have been calling Truck Customs up there in Troy all day bugging them with different XJ questions, lol. Those guys are pretty knowledgeable and extremely friendly and willing to help no matter what. If you ever need anything from your Jeep you should hit them up. They have pretty reasonable prices too!

yeah, a couple of the guys there either have or have had cherokees that they modified quite a bit. One guy there did his whole XJ in lime green line-x. It looks awesome!
I only pass through when driving up to Montgomery to see a Doc. I'll be driving through on Monday actually.

Alright...after doing a bit more research I have found that the 87 xj with 5 spd had a peugot transmission which is basically a piece of crap. I've looked around at doing an AX15 swap but that's gonna cost upwards of $2000 cause the t-case will most likely have to be changed out as well. Shoot, while I'm at it I might as well upgrade to an HO 4.0 I think this 87 might not be worth it after all...Any thoughts?
